Brewed with rustic grains for refined flavors, Ruthless Rye IPA features spicy rye as a counterpoint to the bold citrus and herbal flavors from the use of whole-cone American hops.
Rye has been a staple grain for centuries, and it is favored for its hearty flavor and its ability to thrive in hostile growing conditions. Rye was used in beer since ancient times, but in recent years, it was brought back into favor by spirits distillers who added the grain into their mash for added depth.
In Ruthless Rye IPA the rye adds a spicy black-pepper character to the beer which balances well against the intense hop flavors and aromas.
Ruthless is a true IPA in style. It features large doses of Citra, Chinook, and new resinous and oil-rich experimental hop varieties for a complex hop profile and intense aroma. Ruthless will pair well with a myriad of hearty winter dishes and bold flavors such as: roasted duck, winter soups and stews, and bold, spice-forward foods such as curries or Caribbean jerk selections.
Ruthless has a different look-and-feel than many of Sierra Nevada's previous seasonal selections. The label is quite dark and edgy suggesting the aggressive yet refined mix of flavors within. This beer is the perfect choice to usher in the tumultuous transition to spring.
